Detectives Recover More Than $30,000 in Stolen Property, Arrest Two

Kirkland Police Department ProAct detectives recently recovered more than $30,000 in stolen property connected to burglaries and vehicle prowls across several cities, including Kirkland, Bellevue, Newcastle, and Federal Way.

Juanita Beach Reopened for Water Activity; Houghton Remains Closed

Juanita Beach has been reopened as of today, Aug. 25, 2026, for swimming, wading, and other water activities, by recommendation of Public Health – Seattle & King County. Houghton Beach remains closed this week based on test results that continue to indicate elevated bacteria levels.

House Fire in Everest Neighborhood on August 23, 2026

Kirkland firefighters are on scene at a residential fire in the Everest neighborhood.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., crews responded to a home near Slater Avenue and arrived to find the house fully involved in fire. Firefighters from Bellevue, Redmond and Shoreline are assisting with the response.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Houghton and Juanita Beaches Are Closed for Swimming

As of 4 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2026, Public Health – Seattle & King County is recommending that people and pets stay out of the water at the swimming areas of Houghton Beach Park and Juanita Beach Park for at least one week due to elevated bacteria levels.
