Apply for a Recreation Scholarship

Kirkland Parks and Community Services Department offers Kirkland residents of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in diverse and high-quality recreation programs that are accessible and affordable.  We try to make every opportunity available, regardless of income.  Scholarship opportunities are available to those who might not be able to participate because of income.

Scholarship Amount and Usage

50%, 75% and 95% scholarships are available to residents of the City of Kirkland (depending on household and income verification).  Applicants can be awarded up to $450 per household member, per calendar year as long as funds are available.

Funds are valid for activity fees onlyFunds cannot be applied to adult sports leagues, rentals, extra supply and materials fees and late fees for Day Camp Programs.

Scholarship eligibility levels are determined by Seattle-Bellevue, WA HUD FMR Area Income Limit Summary. 


Kirkland residents who wish to register for programs and services provided by Kirkland Parks & Community Services through the scholarship program must submit an application, provide residency and income verification documents. Examples of residency and income verification documents are contained within the application.

Household Size is defined as those on your Income Tax return and/or all individuals living in your home that you care for.

Total Household Income is defined as the total income before taxes of all adult household members for the year.

How can I donate to the Scholarship Fund?

 The Kirkland Parks & Community Services Department scholarship donation program provides the opportunity for community members to donate funding, which will be used by Kirkland Residents to participate in department scheduled programming. Your donation to the program is greatly appreciated!

Step 1.Understand the requirements

  • Recreation Scholarships are available to Kirkland residents only.

  • Must be willing to provide income and Kirkland residency verification documents.
  • Submission of this Scholarship Form does not reserve a space or register the participant into their requested program automatically.
  • If the scholarship is approved, the balance of the program fee is due at the time of registration.
  • Scholarship Form including verification of income and residency documents are processed in the order received.

  • Gather documents needed for income verification for digital upload. Acceptable documents include your most recent signed 1040 Tax return, SSA-1099 if receiving social security or a Free/Reduced Lunch Determination Letter.
  • Gather documents needed for Kirkland residency verification for digital upload. Acceptable documents include Water/Sewer/Garbage bills, PSE gas/electric bill, lease agreement or mortgage paperwork.
  • Please blackout any sensitive information like social security numbers, bank accounts, etc

  • Staff will review your completed Scholarship Form and verification of income documents.
  • We will contact you within two business days after receipt of all information to confirm eligibility.
  • Once a Scholarship Application is approved, scholarship recipients may register for recreation programs online at www.kirklandparks.net or by phone 425-587-3336. The balance of the program fee will be due at the time of registration.
