Vision Statement and Guiding Principles for 2044

The purpose of a Vision Statement is to reflect the community’s collective vision, values, and aspirations for how the city should grow and evolve over the next 20 years. The Guiding Principles express the key fundamental goals, or priorities, for guiding growth and development in Kirkland contained in the elements of the Comprehensive Plan.

Together, both the revised Vision Statement and Guiding Principles express the values we want to be like now and in the future, a livable, welcoming, sustainable, resilient, and connected community, and set the priorities for the general Elements of the Comprehensive Plan.

The draft Vision Statement and Guiding Principles have been revised for the year 2044 following input from several community engagement activities in 2020-2023 and are contained in the draft 2044 Introduction Chapter(PDF, 4MB) .
