Property and Evidence

The Evidence Unit provides a safe and secure environment for storing evidence and property for varied lengths of time depending on the reason it was brought in. A few duties of the Evidence Unit include, but are not limited to:

Controlling and maintaining the chain of custody on all items seized as evidence, found property, recovered stolen property and items surrendered by court order
Disposing of illegal firearms, unclaimed property and controlled substances destruction
Maintaining over 50,000 pieces of property
Responding to Crime Scenes to assist in evidence collection and crime scene photography

The public may retrieve property from the Evidence Unit by appointment.

Appointments are available Monday-Friday 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Please have a case number and/or name and birthdate available.

A Photo ID will need to be presented at time of pickup.

Property Request Form

You can seek the return of property by completing this form. The review process can take up to five business days. Complete and accurate information will expedite the process. Please print legibly. You may be asked to provide proof of ownership. You will be contacted during regular business hours once a decision has been made regarding the release of property. Property that is authorized for release will be done by appointment only during business hours.

If the property taken is contraband or illegal to possess, it will be destroyed.

The return of firearms is controlled by RCW Chapter 9.41, which prohibits possession of firearms by convicted felons, persons convicted of domestic violence offenses, persons subject to certain court orders, and persons with pending criminal cases. Firearms will not be returned to persons who are federally prohibited except by court order.

From I-405 heading North: Take the NE 116th exit (#20A). Turn left on NE 116th St. (Go under I-405). Take first right on 120th Avenue NE. Take first left on to NE 118th Street. Go 0.1 mile; building will be on right.

From I-405 South: Take the NE 124th Street exit (#20). Turn right on NE 124th; take first left onto 120th Avenue NE. Turn right on NE 118th Street. Go 0.1 mile; building will be on right.
