KIRKLAND, Wash. – Due to very unhealthy air quality resulting from fires across the pacific northwest, all active recreation services occurring in the parks, such as boat rentals, are cancelled until Sunday, September 13.

In addition to the cancellation of the Juanita Friday Market, Lee Johnson Field will not open this evening from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. for recreation.  Parks maintenance crews will be focused on indoor work with minimal rounds to cover restrooms and garbage and there will be no park ambassadors on Saturday.

“These decisions were made to protect the health of all members of our community,” said Parks and Community Services Director Lynn Zwaagstra. “We encourage you to follow the advice of public health agencies and limit exposure to the outdoors.”

If the air quality remains in the very unhealthy or hazardous range into Sunday, the same actions will apply. For more information on coping with wildfire smoke visit https://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/AirQuality/SmokeFromFires/.
