KIRKLAND, Wash. – Ever wish you could provide formal recommendations to the City Council?  Want to serve your community and help guide Kirkland’s future?  Then consider applying to a City advisory board or commission by February 14, 2025.

City advisory board and commission members:

  • receive both technical presentations and public comments,
  • consider and analyze complex issues,
  • collaborate with other board or commission members, City staff, and consultants
  • discuss options and new ideas for specific projects and policies, and
  • make recommendations to the City Council.

“Serving on a board or commission is a chance for community members of any background to advise the City Council on what they believe is best for Kirkland,” said Councilmember Penny Sweet. “We want perspectives that reflect Kirkland. Whether it’s about civil service, parks, or transportation, serving on one of the City’s many advisory boards is a rewarding experience.”

Most boards and commissions meet every month in the evening.  To decrease potential barriers to participation, the City provides childcare stipends for board and commission members.

Kirkland community members who meet eligibility requirements are invited to apply to the City Clerk by 4 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025.  Eligibility requirements differ for each board or commission.  Visit the Current Recruitment Positions page or call the City Clerk’s Office at 425-587-3190 to learn more and apply.

Members of most advisory boards and commissions are appointed by the City Council.  Members of the Civil Service Commission are appointed by the City Manager.  City Council interviews for potential members will be held on the evening of Thursday, March 13, 2025.

The following boards and commissions have vacancies:
