Doreen Marchione exemplified what it means to lead a life devoted to the service to others. As an elected official for the cities of Redmond and Kirkland she brought leadership, a commitment to collaboration, and a relentless dedication to improving the lives of those in need. In her 15 years as CEO of Hopelink, Doreen worked tirelessly to improve the lives of tens of thousands of community members in King and Snohomish counties. During her tenure, she oversaw an increase in the number of residents HopeLink assisted, from 20,000 to 50,000 served annually.
The City of Kirkland was incredibly fortunate to be the beneficiary of Doreen Marchione’s leadership during her eight years on the City Council. Doreen brought a culture to the council that was focused on collaboration, accountability, and collegiality. Her work led to the development of the City’s comprehensive ethics policy and the creation of the City’s new Human Service Commission. Her impact on the City Council continues to have a tremendous influence today. Her dedication to public service, to advocating for those in need, and to mentoring future leaders, particularly women, is inspiring. Our community was blessed to benefit from her leadership.

Further, the City Council remembers and honors former Kirkland City Council member Jessica Greenway.
Greenway found extraordinary beauty in the black and white world of numbers. Her keen ability to understand and embrace the complexities of municipal budgets, financial sustainability and fiscal responsibility, was an asset to the council and to the City. A Kirkland resident for over 30 years, Jessica loved her community deeply. That love rendered itself as community advocacy and service, which began in the late 1980s when she helped found the North Rose Hill and Bridle Trails Neighborhood Association and served as the association’s first president. She subsequently served on the Park Board, Planning Commission and finally the City Council, where she selflessly helped guide our City for a total of eight years.
Her shrewd knack for numbers helped lay the groundwork for the 2011 annexation, and her devotion to community wellness drove her desire to make sure the City’s 30,000 new residents felt welcomed and fully integrated into the Kirkland community. Jessica was a visionary, always looking into the future and working proactively to ensure the continuity of what she referred to as the “Kirkland Quality of Life.”
