The Kirkland City Council met on September 5, 2023, in a hybrid meeting. Here’s a brief overview of some of the items from the meeting: 

Council voted to retain Park Lane in its current status and not have it be subject to permanent or partial closure to vehicular traffic and parking except for during permitted events. Council also directed staff to cease work on permanent or partial closures of Park Lane.

Council reviewed a draft Utility Box Art Wraps Work Plan and provided direction to staff about preferred next steps.   

Council approved the Property Acquisition of 212 6th St S. adjacent to the Cross Kirkland Corridor (CKC) to be developed as a memorial park in support of the CKC Master Plan.  

Council reviewed a new Employee Childcare Initiative and authorized negotiations for childcare services for City employees.   

Proclamations Issued September 5, 2023  The Mayor proclaimed:

  • September 15 - October 15, 2023 Hispanic Heritage Month
  • September 8 – 17, 2023 Eastside Welcoming Week in Kirkland
  • September 2023 as “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” in Kirkland
  • September 2023 as “Recovery Month” in Kirkland

Prior to the above business agenda, the Council held a Study Session, where they discussed: 

Council reviewed the 2023-2028 Capital Improvement Program and provided direction on proposed changes which the Council will consider for adoption in December.  

Council received a briefing on the findings of the Future of Park Lane Study and additional staff research.
