KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Kirkland the GFOA's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the City’s annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended December 31, 2021. This is the eighteenth consecutive year the City has been awarded this recognition.
“The City of Kirkland values transparency and accountability, and this award recognizes the City’s ongoing efforts to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said Councilmember Toby Nixon. “Thanks to our staff for their commitment in demonstrating the City’s values, which is the basis for this recognition.”
In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, the City had to publish an easily readable and efficiently organized Annual Comprehensive Financial Report that satisfied both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate the City’s financial story and motivate members of the community to read the report.
According to the GFOA, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
