Case/Incident #21-30966
Kirkland, WA – On Monday, August 23, 2021 Kirkland police officers responded to the scene of a vehicle collision in the parking lot of the Salt House church. The driver of a vehicle struck a female acquaintance in the parking lot. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after colliding with the church building.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. a female driver and two female passengers returned to the Salt House church parking lot located at 11920 N.E. 80th Street after running errands. The females resided at the adjacent Helen’s Place shelter. Once inside the parking lot, in a temporary parking location, one of the female passengers exited the vehicle and walked to the rear of the vehicle to retrieve items. The driver of the vehicle suddenly drove in reverse, driving over the female and into the Salt House church building. Kirkland Police and Aid units responded to the scene; however, the female passenger did not survive.
The driver was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, and she later reported she mistakenly believed her vehicle was in drive when she accelerated. The Kirkland Police Fatal Investigation Team responded to conduct a thorough investigation. Officers are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
