The City of Kirkland is excited to announce the re-opening of the Kirkland Teen Union Building (KTUB).  Starting on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, KTUB will continue to serve Kirkland area teens as a drop-in center offering a wide range of free activities, programs, and services for middle and high school students.

“The City of Kirkland is dedicated to providing our youth with the resources they need to thrive,” said Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold. “The re-opening of KTUB marks a significant step in embodying that commitment.  Whether making art or playing games, doing homework or getting mental health support, we’re excited for KTUB to once again serve as a critical hub for Kirkland’s teens.”

KTUB will be open five days a week, Monday through Friday, with additional activities on most Saturdays. Each weekday, teens can dive into various activities such as art, homework help, games, and socializing in the lounge. KTUB will also provide access to essential mental health services—all at no cost. On-site behavioral health services will be offered in partnership with Youth Eastside Services (YES), a leading provider of mental health counseling, substance use treatment, and support services for youth and families in East King County. Programs for Latinx youth will be provided in collaboration with 4 Tomorrow, a non-profit organization focused on supporting the Latinx community through culturally relevant programs and services.

In addition to drop-in activities, KTUB will offer a regular schedule of recreation classes and workshops throughout the year. These programs will include everything from video gaming to painting to life skills development and more. While some classes may have a nominal fee, the City is committed to keeping rates affordable and making scholarships available to ensure accessibility for all teens.

“KTUB has long been a place where teens can explore their creativity, find support, and build lasting friendships,” said Parks and Community Services Director Lynn Zwaagstra. “We are excited to partner with YES and 4 Tomorrow to enhance how we serve Kirkland’s youth.”

To celebrate the re-opening, the City will host a grand-reopening party on Wednesday, September 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. All members of the community are invited to join us for this special event, which will feature live music, refreshments, and a showcase of the programs and services KTUB will offer.
