Community Process Underway to Inspire a Wave of Creativity

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Whether you live in Kirkland or just happen to love Kirkland, you have an opportunity to help create an official Kirkland flag.  Submit a design between now and November 15, 2024, and be a part of Kirkland’s history. 

“A city flag is more than a piece of fabric, it’s a way to display what kind of community we are and want to be in the future,” said Kirkland City Councilmember Amy Falcone. “When you think of Kirkland, what colors, shapes, and images come to mind? We’re excited to see the imaginative ways that flag designs embody what makes Kirkland a special place.”

In July, the Kirkland City Council gave the go-ahead to create an official city flag through a fun, collaborative process with the community, and that process is underway now. By participating, you can help foster a strong sense of identity and civic pride within Kirkland as well as contribute to Kirkland’s visibility in the region and beyond.

You can create your design on a computer, tablet, or phone or create your design on paper and take a photo of it.  Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be fancy. Tips, design criteria, rules, and the link to submit your design can be found at kirklandwa.gov/flag.

The City is also seeking volunteers to apply for the Kirkland Flag Learners Advisory Group: This group will review designs, narrow down selections, and ultimately recommend options to the Kirkland City Council. If you’re enthusiastic about flag design and care about the community, please apply by October 18.

Additionally, there will be opportunities in the future for everyone to provide input. Flag designs that are selected for the semi-final process will be posted online for feedback.
