Media Contact: Kellie Stickney Communications Program Manager kstickney@kirklandwa.gov (425) 979-6562 UPDATE: Houghton Beach has been reopened as of 8/16/2019 KIRKLAND, Wash. –Houghton Beach will be closed starting this afternoon, August 7, and until further notice due to high bacteria concentrations in Lake Washington. Crews from the King County Water and Land Resources Division tested the water Wednesday, August 7, and found that the levels of bacteria exceeded the thresholds for closure. King County crews will sample the beach next on Thursday, August 8. Per King County protocol, the beach will remain closed for a mini mum of three days. Houghton Beach will reopen when bacteria levels return to a safe range. For more information, visit the King County website and search for Swim Beach Monitoring Program.
