Kirkland, Wash. – The Kirkland Fire Department extracted the operator from a tipped mobile crane this morning at the Sierra Construction site at 5501 Lakeview Drive.
A call came into 9-1-1 this morning at approximately 8:10 a.m. reporting that a crane had tipped over at the construction site for a new office building on Lakeview Dr., and that the crane operator was trapped inside. Units from Kirkland Fire and Police were joined by crews from Redmond and Bellevue Fire Departments. The crews were able to extract the operator from the crane after approximately one hour. The crane operator was then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The operator’s injuries are believed to be minor. No other injuries were reported. A representative from Labor and Industries was on site later this morning to investigate what caused the crane to tip.
“We are very appreciative to our partner agencies from Bellevue and Redmond that joined us on the response,” said Deputy Chief Dave Van Valkenburg. “This complex technical rescue was able to be accomplished efficiently and successfully because of the collaborative effort between our departments.”
All lanes are now open to traffic. The results of the investigation will be available when completed.
