KIRKLAND, Wash. – The City of Kirkland has launched a new interactive online tool that compiles in one place data on Kirkland’s creeks.  This new tool, commonly referred to as a dashboard, allows users to learn in which watershed they reside, about the health of their neighborhood creek, what they can do to help, and what the City is doing to help.

“Maintaining healthy water quality and habitat in our creeks, wetlands, and lakes is essential to the quality of life for the residents, businesses, and wildlife that call Kirkland home,” said Councilmember Toby Nixon. “By presenting data in a user-friendly and interactive format, this dashboard empowers our community members to be aware of, and take accountability for, the health of our local waterways. This new tool can be a valuable resource for residents who want to learn more about the creeks that run through our community and can inform how they can get involved in protecting and preserving our creeks.”

Kirkland monitors the health of 12 watersheds using physical, chemical, and biological data, and this dashboard shares the results of these monitoring efforts. The dashboard also provides information on actions the City is taking to protect Kirkland’s creeks and improve habitat, as well as easy actions residents can take in their daily lives.

The dashboard was developed by the City’s Storm & Surface Water Division with grant funding provided by the King County Wastewater Treatment Division.
