Suspect Apprehended in New Hampshire

Kirkland, WA – Today, the Kirkland Police Department (KPD) arrested a Kirkland resident in Bow, New Hampshire, for the death of a 7-year-old girl in Kirkland in April. This arrest was made with the help of New Hampshire jurisdictions Bow Police Department, the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force, and the US Marshal’s Service.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Kirkland man, had recently moved from the Seattle area to Bow, New Hampshire.

Police began their investigation on April 11, 2024, after a 7-year-old child under the care of the suspect was brought to Evergreen Health hospital with no pulse and signs of abuse. She was stabilized and then transferred to Harborview Medical Center where it was determined she had suffered an acute traumatic brain injury. She died from her injuries on April 18.

Kirkland Police detectives were able to make an arrest after the King County Medical Examiner’s office issued a determination of homicide as the cause of death on July 17.

“We grieve with the family and the community in this heartbreaking case of a little girl whose life was taken. I commend the efforts of our Investigations Unit and thank our partner agencies Bow Police Department, New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service in making this arrest,” said Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris.  “For those who suspect child neglect or abuse, we urge you to report it to the police or child protective services in your area.”

The suspect will be held without bail at the Merrimack County Department of Corrections pending extradition to Washington state. He will be arraigned on July 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the 6th Circuit District Division Concord Court on fugitive charges.
