Help the City Reduce Commutes

The City works with our largest Kirkland employers to reduce the number of single-occupant vehicle trips generated by their worksites. Not only is it helpful and relieves traffic, it's also required by state law!

Washington’s Commute Trip Reduction law is about reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion on the state's busiest commute routes. Review Kirkland’s draft 2025-2029 Commute Trip Reduction Plan and provide comments using this webform by October 31. Read more about the Commute Trip Reduction law and program on the Washington State Department of Transportation website.

Halloween can be a lot of activity for pets. Follow these tips to help keep them safe:

  • Pets often react to the sound of doorbells, so try to get them used to the sound before Halloween night. You can also cover your doorbell with a Halloween decoration or a sign asking to knock so that visitors will avoid ringing the doorbell.
  • Be mindful of your pet’s stress level with extra visitors and chaos. Consider putting them in a safe, cozy room if the action gets too much.
  • Keep cats indoors to ensure they stay happy and healthy.

Pedestrian Safety Month

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month. Everyone shares in the responsibility for road safety. To achieve this, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) urges drivers to slow down and be alert for pedestrians.

Together we can create safer roads. Know the laws, yield to pedestrians, and prioritize safety for all.
